Heart of Texas Rats. My name is Sonja and I'm a huge advocate of
rats as pets. They are truly amazing creatures and my hope is that
though viewing this site, others will began to see and appreciate
their unique place in the pet world.
Heart
of Texas Rats is a small rattery located in Austin, Texas. The rats,
the work and the love are spread out among different homes.
This is designed to prevent any one person from becoming overwhelmed
and assures all rats receive lots of love and social interaction
from the day they're born. They are our family pets first and
foremost. Our goal is to provide beautiful, healthy, well socialized
family pets, so having them in our homes with children and other
animals is a crucial part of our program.
Heart
of Texas Rats first hit the internet in November 2005 as a way for
me to share my love of pet rats with my friends and family. It was
mostly just a self-indulgent brag site for my own pet rats.
Then
things began to shift some. I was in contact with many Texas rat
rescues and wanted to help them get their available rats out there
for everyone to see. So I started the rescue page. In addition to
the rescues, I also cross-post ads from various rat forums and
craigslist. I find it very rewarding to have a small part in finding
these little fuzzies loving homes. I was honored when the Rescue
Page was linked as the adoption/rescue page of the Rat Association
of Texas.
Heart
of Texas Rats underwent yet another transition in '07, including some
breeding plans. We obtained some wonderful pedigreed rats from both
Warm Fuzzies
in north Texas and
Bellaratta’s Nest
in Florida. Both of these ratteries are known for their superb rats
and my little fuzzies are no exception with their great
personalities and beautiful body structures.

We have an
extensive waiting list for baby rats. Currently there are 40plus
prospective adopters, some of whom have been waiting for over a year.
All are welcome to apply to be added to the wait list, but please be
aware that there is normally a 6 month wait for babies.
I apologize
for the inconvenience but I do not mass breed my pets. My breeding
purpose is to preserve and improve on their family line. In the process
I occasionally have babies that I'm thrilled to share with others.
